India captain Rohit Sharma has tested negative for COVID-19 and is out of the isolation which means he will be available for the limited-overs series against England starting from July 7.
Rohit tested positive on Thursday, which had ruled him out of the ongoing fifth Test at Birmingham. In his place, Cheteshwar Pujara opened the batting for India alongside Shubman Gill while Hanuma Vihari played in the No.3 spot. Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been named captain for the Test in Rohit's absence.
"Yes, Rohit has tested negative and as per medical protocols is now out of quarantine. However, he is not playing today's T20 warm-up game against Northamptonshire as he will need some recovery time and training ahead of the first T20I," a senior BCCI official told PTI.
Rohit has been named as the captain for the three-match T20I series starting at Southampton on July 7. Majority of the squad that toured Ireland for two T20Is in Dublin were retained for the first T20I.
The likes of Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Bumrah and Rishabh Pant will be available for the three-match ODI series.
