Rohit Sharma’s Former Teammate Earns Maiden Call-Up For USA In ODI

He plays for Texas Super Kings in Major League Cricket

USA Cricket on October 24 (Friday) announced the squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series involving themselves, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Nepal, and handed a maiden international call-up to former Mumbai and Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Shubham Ranjane

The 31-year-old, who plays for Texas Super Kings (TSK) in Major League Cricket (MLC), has found his way into the side immediately after fulfilling his residency requirements.

A former Mumbai state player who was a former teammate of the likes of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer and others, Ranjane posted solid numbers for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, scoring 513 runs at an average of 39.46, posting 4 fifties in total.

But he had middling numbers in white-ball cricket, averaging 15.5 in T20s and 70.9 in List A cricket. In 50-over cricket, he struck at just 70.9 in the eight innings he batted.

Ranjane also played one season for Goa (in 2021/22) and registered poor numbers in both 50-over cricket and Ranji Trophy. However, he had a very good Syed Mushtaq Ali campaign in 2021, scoring 167 runs at an average of 55.67 and strike rate of 116.

The 31-year-old retired from Indian cricket and shifted base to the USA post 2021.

Meanwhile, for the tri-series, USA have also called up promising young pacer Rushil Ugarkar, who was one of the breakthrough stars in MLC 2025, taking 11 wickets playing for MI New York.

“This series marks another important step in our League 2 campaign. The squad has shown consistency and determination throughout the season, and we are eager to build on that momentum against two quality opponents in UAE and Nepal,” USA Cricket Men’s Head Coach, Pubudu Dassanayake said.

The tri-series will be played from October 26 to November 5 in Dubai.
