Lhuan-dre Pretorius Joins KL Rahul, Prithvi Shaw & Others In UNWANTED List

Rahul had achieved this unwanted feat against the same opponents nine years back

South Africa and Rajasthan Royals’ teenage sensation Lhuan-dre Pretorius had a dream start to his Test career a few weeks back, becoming the youngest ever player to smash a 150+ score in the format. He hit 153 in his first ever innings in the format, and then followed it up with a productive 78 in his second Test.

However, Pretorius yesterday came across the unforgiving nature of international cricket as he registered a golden duck on his T20I debut, in the first T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare.

Pretorius was dismissed by Richard Ngarava as he became the third South African, after Monde Zondeki in 2006 and Ottneil Baartman in 2024, to register a golden duck on T20I debut.

In fact, the 19-year-old only became the 27th opener in T20I history to register a golden duck on debut. Some interesting names find themselves in this list, including KL Rahul, Rachin Ravindra, Finn Allen and Prithvi Shaw.

Incidentally, Rahul’s golden duck also came against Zimbabwe in Harare. Shaw, meanwhile, registered his golden duck against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2021, after which he never played T20I cricket for India again.
