Bangladesh appoint S Sriram as technical consultant for Asia Cup and T20 World Cup: Report

Bangladesh also might try split coaching as they aren't sure if Russell Domingo will be with the team for the Asia Cup

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed former India all-rounder Sridharan Sriram as the technical consultant for the national team for both the upcoming Asia Cup in the UAE and the T20 World Cup in Australia. His role will only be limited to the shortest format.

"We have appointed him because he has got experience of working in IPL while the World Cup is in Australia where he has worked for a long time," BCB president Nazmul Hasan told reporters on Friday.

Sriram represented India in eight ODIs between 2000 and 2004 and also served as Australia's assistant and spin-bowling coach for a long time. It was under former Australian coach Darren Lehmann, Sriram was entrusted with the responsibility as a spin bowling coach in 2016.

The 46-year-old recently stepped down from that position to focus on his role with the Indian Premier League (IPL) side, Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Nazmul also said that Bangladesh might try split coaching as they aren't sure if Russell Domingo will be with the team for the Asia Cup. "Whether we will have Domingo or not (at the Asia Cup) is something that will be decided on August 22 because we have to sit with him (Domingo) while we also have to sit with Sriram (and decide)

"Our plan is for Domingo to concentrate on ODIs and Tests. We want to separate everything as there are a lot of games and it is not possible for Domingo to travel for all the series.

"We have lot of T20Is, so we want to separate it. The mental attitude required for T20Is is not like Tests or ODIs so we are thinking if we can have a separate coaching staff set up for the format. But first we have to see how Sriram fares at the Asia Cup and the World Cup and then we can decide whether we will bring him on board permanently for T20Is or find someone else."
