Sachin Tendulkar On Steve Bucknor: ‘Give Him Boxing Gloves So That…’

Bucknor was notorious for giving absurd decisions against Sachin

Having officiated in a whopping 338 international matches, there is no question that Jamaican umpire Steve Bucknor is one of the legends of the sport. Bucknor officiated his first international match in 1989, and it was in 2009, 20 years later, that the now-retired Jamaican hung up his boots as an international umpire.

However, as great as Bucknor is, he was also notorious for a lot of howlers. And coincidentally or otherwise, plenty of those howlers came against Sachin Tendulkar.

Arguably the most famous (rather infamous) of those came in the Brisbane Test in 2003, when Sachin was adjudged LBW to a delivery to which he shouldered arms to. The ball hit Sachin on the thigh and was going well high, yet Bucknor adjudged the Little Master LBW, leaving the batter absolutely shell-shocked with the decision.

In a Q & A session on Reddit, when a user asked Sachin for his thoughts on Bucknor, this is what he had to say: “When I am batting give him boxing gloves to wear (so he can't raise his finger) 😜.”
