Wriddhiman Saha will have an opportunity to reclaim his spot in the Test side as he features in the India ‘A’ squad that will tour the West Indies ahead of the senior team’s series slated for the beginning of August.
A series of injuries have kept the wicket-keeper out of the game, having last played in the first Test when India toured South Africa in 2018. Rishabh Pant has since staked his claim in the longer format with an impressive display in England and Australia last year, where he became the first Indian wicket-keeper to score hundreds in both countries.
Pant was not named in the four-day squad (July 24 to August 9) but is part of the team that will play five limited over games between July 11 and 21.
Shreyas Iyer will lead in the four-day games, while Manish Pandey was named skipper of the limited over side.
Shubman Gill, who made his ODI debut against New Zealand in 2018, found a spot in both squads with veterans Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan not included in either.
Prithvi Shaw, Mayank Agarwal, Hanuma Vihari and KL Rahul will also tour with the ‘A’ squad.
Prior to the series in the Caribbean, India ‘A’ will host Sri Lanka ‘A’ at the end of May with Ishan Kishan and Priyank Panchal leading the one day and four-day sides respectively.
