7, 11, 38 and 0 – Sai Sudharsan’s last four Test innings weren’t the fairest indicator of his talent, but the left-hander has now bounced back in fine fashion against West Indies, on October 10 (Friday). Sudharsan, who was under a lot of pressure, came out attacking the bowlers, with two boundaries within the first ten balls at the crease.
The left-hander continued that attacking run throughout the early part of his stay, taking the West Indies spinners head-on, including hitting a sublime cover drive against Jomel Warrican. Sudharsan then took on Khary Pierre, too, from the other end, in a very enterprising session for the hosts.
Once they were back from lunch, Sudharsan carried that attacking intent into the second session, requiring just two fours to get to his half-century – his second in a rather hot-cold start to his Test career.
Sudharsan’s last Test half-century came in his second Test at Old Trafford when the left-hander posted a sublime 61 against England. Since then, the left-hander has had a drought in the longest format, with a lot of attention on his place in the Indian side.
However, his half-century now will temporarily put all those debates to rest, as India have raced themselves off in fine fashion here in Delhi, at 193/1 in 49 overs. Meanwhile, Jaiswal at the other end is racing himself towards yet another Test century, carrying on his rich vein of form in the red-ball format.
