0, 30, 61, and 0 - Sai Sudharsan has had an inconsistent start to his Test career for India.
On July 26 (Saturday), the left-handed batter from Tamil Nadu became the first Indian top-order batter (Nos. 1-6) in Test history to register two ducks in his first two Tests.
Sudharsan made his red-ball debut for India in the first Test at Headingley, where he began with a four-ball duck. He managed a steady 30 off 48 in the second innings, but the knock wasn’t enough to retain his spot in the playing XI.
The 23-year-old was left out of the second and third Tests, before returning in the fourth at Old Trafford, Manchester, replacing Karun Nair at No. 3. He justified his selection with a gritty 61 off 151 balls in the first innings - his maiden Test fifty. However, his second outing didn’t go to plan.
After England posted a mammoth 669 in 157.1 overs, India were immediately under pressure. Chris Woakes removed Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first over, bringing Sudharsan to the crease early.
It was a golden opportunity to steady the innings and make a match-saving contribution - instead, it ended in a golden duck. Sudharsan tried to leave the delivery, only to guide it straight to Harry Brook at second slip.
