The biggest fallout of a poor Asia Cup 2025 campaign by Pakistan is likely to be in the form of captain Salman Ali Agha, as he could lose captaincy of the T20I side due to his average showing and poor decision-making as captain.
“Pakistan Cricket Board is set to replace Salman Ali Agha as T20I captain with all-rounder Shadab Khan following Pakistan's three consecutive losses to India in the Asia Cup 2025,” TOI wrote, citing a report by newswire agency PTI.
Failing to win even a single game against arch-rivals India, and especially losing the final, where Pakistan controlled 60 percent of the game, is most likely to have triggered this change, as the PCB is now looking to have a change of mind ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, which will be played in India and Sri Lanka.
The biggest decision in the Asia Cup final that went wrong for Agha was bringing back Haris Rauf into the attack when his main spinners on the day, Saim Ayub and Abrar Ahmed, had one over each remaining and had tightened the noose against Indian batters Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube.
As a result, Rauf gave away 17 runs in the 15th over and shifted the momentum towards India.
As for Shadab, he has played 112 T20Is, scoring 792 runs at a strike rate of 140 and with one fifty to his name and taking 112 wickets at an economy rate of 7.37 and an average of 24.
