England and Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Sam Curran is out of the remainder of IPL 2021 and the T20 World Cup due to a lower-back injury he sustained during the game against Rajasthan Royals, the England & Wales Cricket Board confirmed on Tuesday. Curran's bother Tom will now replace him in England's squad with left-arm pacer Reece Topley added as a travelling reserve.
"He [Sam Curran] will fly back to the UK in the next couple of days and will have further scans and a full review later this week from the ECB's medical team," the release stated.
Curran complained of back pain after Saturday's game in at Abu Dhabi which CSK lost. Scans revealed the nature of his injury and ruled him out of the ongoing tournament and the T20 World Cup in UAE. England, who previously won the World T20 title in 2010 and finalists of the previous editions, are grouped alongside Australia, South Africa and defending champions West Indies.
