Samuel Badree named Assistant Coach for Windies tour of South Africa

The two-time T20 World Cup winner will join the team in the coming week ahead of their six white-ball games against the Proteas

West Indies have acquired the services of Samuel Badree as an Assistant Coach of the West Indies Men's side ahead of their six white-ball matches against South Africa.

Cricket West Indies announced that the leg spinner would link up with the squad in the coming week and help the players fine-tune their skills ahead of the series, with the first ODI set to take place on March 16 at Buffalo Park in East London.

In a press release by the Board, Badree was delighted with his new role and said, “I’m absolutely thrilled to be asked by CWI to join the team and work with this great group of players in South Africa for the white ball leg of the tour."

“I look forward to catching up with the players, some who I played with and most I already know, as we seek to acquit ourselves well on what is expected to be a challenging tour of South Africa. I also look forward to sharing my knowledge and experiences with the players as we look to bring some positive results to our loyal fans," he further added.

The 41-year-old has been a two-time World Cup winner with the Windies in 2012 and 2016 and scalped 56 wickets in the 52 matches he played for the national side.

Jimmy Adams, CWI’s Director of Cricket, said," I’m happy that Samuel is going to be spending time with our white ball teams in South Africa. He brings plenty of international experience and a strong desire to assist our slow bowlers in becoming world class."

"We believe this combination makes him ideally placed to add tremendous value to our support staff in South Africa, and specifically for our slow bowlers," he concluded.
