India have yet again shown why they are the team to beat in the ongoing Asia Cup, smashing 202/5 against the eliminated Sri Lanka, on September 26 (Friday). It's the second-highest total in the history of the Asia Cup (T20Is), behind India’s 212/2 against Afghanistan back in 2022.
Yet again, Abhishek Sharma handed India a fiery start at the top of the order, smashing a 31-ball 61, with eight fours and two sixes. However, once he was dismissed, Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson carried that attacking template forward.
Samson, who batted at No.5, and for the first time since that contest against Pakistan, smashed a stellar 23-ball 39, where he hit three sixes. Not just that, the Kerala wicketkeeper batter surpassed MS Dhoni’s tally to have hit the most sixes for an Indian wicketkeeper in the Asia Cup (T20Is).
In the end, Tilak stayed unbeaten, smashing 34-ball 49, with five boundaries as India got themselves over the 200-run mark, the highest in the ongoing edition of the Asia Cup.
