Sanju Samson Becomes Kerala Cricket League's Most Expensive Player

The Kochi Blue Tigers have spent more than half their purse on the star wicketkeeper-batter

Sanju Samson, who leads Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), scripted history on July 5 (Saturday) as he became the most expensive player in Kerala Cricket League (KCL) history, according to a report on Mathrubhumi.com. The wicketkeeper-batter was bought for INR 26.80 lakh by the Kochi Blue Tigers. This will be Samson's first season in the KCL.

The Blue Tigers have spent more than half their purse on Samson. Each team can buy 16 to 20 players at the auction in their allotted INR 50 lakh purse. Before Samson, MS Akhil was the most expensive player after the Trivandrum Royals shelled out INR 7.40 lakh on him last year.

Even this year, Akhil has gone for a big sum as the Aries Kollam Sailors have procured his services for INR 8.40 lakh.

The auction is underway in Trivandrum with Charu Sharma, who has also presided over the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in the past, overseeing things in the KCL as well.

Aries Kollam Sailors won the inaugural edition of the KCL last year. The upcoming season, comprising of six teams, will be played between August 21 and September 6.
