Sanju Samson Formally Asks Rajasthan Royals To Release Or Trade Him: Reports
CSK are believed to have shown interest in trading Samson, but getting him in won’t be straightforward
Sanju Samson has been the face of Rajasthan Royals (RR) for the past decade, but that could no longer be the case from next season as according to the latest Cricbuzz report, the RR skipper has formally requested the franchise to either trade or release him ahead of IPL 2026.
Rumors of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wanting to trade Samson caught fire after the conclusion of IPL 2025, and, since then, many reports have emerged claiming that all is not well between Samson and RR.
But in what’s the most significant development that’s emerged, yet, Cricbuzz claim that Samson has already informed the management of his desire to leave the franchise.
However, the decision to keep or release Samson ultimately lies with the franchise, and thus it’s now up to RR to take a call on the future of their incumbent skipper.
According to the same report, CSK are believed to have shown interest in trading Samson, but getting him in won’t be straightforward.
“Chennai Super Kings have openly expressed interest, but as a matter of policy, they are unwilling to release their players - ruling out a direct trade. Samson is a Rs 18-crore player and an all-cash one-way trade, naturally, is out of order for the RR management,” the report claims.
Out of Samson’s 177 IPL appearances, 149 have come for Rajasthan Royals. He’s captained the side in a total of 67 games, and led them to the final in IPL 2022. Samson missed a handful of games in IPL 2025 due to injury, and Riyan Parag led in his absence. The emergence of Vaibhav Suryavanshi also saw the 30-year-old get pushed away from his preferred opening slot.
