It was only the second game of the second season of the Kerala Cricket League, and the name Samson had come up amongst the best performers. Although this time, it’s not Sanju, but rather his brother Saly Samson, who shone with the bat in his team, Kochi Blue Tigers’ victory.
Bowling first, the Kochi side, which was also being captained by Saly, was right on the money, and they never let the Trivandrum Royals gain momentum in their innings. Medium pacer Akhil Sathar bowled brilliantly to pick three wickets for just 13 runs in his four overs. Muhammad Ashik, another right-arm pacer, also picked three wickets for Kochi as Trivandrum folded for 97 in 20 overs.
Needing only 98 to win, it was expected that Sanju would bat in the top order and make a meal of the chase. However, surprisingly, he didn’t even bat, and rather it was the other Samson, Saly, who did his job with the bat.
Saly came into bat when his team lost their second wicket at the end of the fourth over. He played a really smooth knock after arriving on the crease, and didn’t take much time settling in the low-scoring chase at all. The boundaries started to flow as Saly smashed five fours and three sixes in his innings.
It was appropriate that it was he who ended the chase with a boundary and took his team to victory after playing a super knock in a chase so early in the competition.
