The fourth edition of the Saurashtra Pro T20 League (SPL 2025), which started as the Saurashtra Premier League, will kick off on June 7 (Saturday) at the Nirajan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.
The tournament comprises five teams, representing five different areas of the Saurashtra region of the Gujarat state. The league is governed and administered by the Saurashtra Cricket Association, a member body of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which runs cricket in the country.
Some of the biggest names in Saurashtra cricket will feature in the five-team league, and here we take a look at those players.
Jaydev Unadkat - The 33-year-old left-arm seamer needs no introduction, considering he has played all three formats for India and has been a regular part of the Indian Premier League for 15 years.
Yuvraj Chudasama - The legspinner from Bhavnagar is yet to play an IPL game but has been a net bowler for a couple of franchises. He has featured in 15 T20s for Saurashtra and has picked up as many wickets at an economy of just over 7.
Harvik Desai - The 25-year-old is one of the best batters in Saurashtra and has been in great form in all three formats for a while now. He was part of Mumbai Indians (MI)’s set-up in 2024 but didn’t get a game. The wicketkeeper-batter will be expected to be one of the leading run-scorers in the league.
Chirag Jani - One of the best all-rounders in domestic cricket, Jani has been a regular member of Saurashtra’s set-up since 2012. The 35-year-old has played 86 First-Class, 127 List A and 65 T20s - that’s EXPERIENCE right there.
Sheldon Jackson - Talking about experience, Zalawad also have Jackson in their team. The 38-year-old has retired from professional cricket but will be eager to make an impact in the Saurashtra Pro T20. Jackson is another big name in the league with experience of playing in the IPL.
Jay Gohil - If the aforementioned two bring experience, Gohil brings that raw power in the Strikers’ batting line-up. In the last edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he smashed 139 runs at an average of 27.8 and a strike rate of 193.1. Many IPL scouts will be keeping a close eye on him.
Dharmendrasinh Jadeja - With close to 400 FC wickets, Jadeja is one of the best left-arm spinners in India. While he is already a great in red-ball cricket, his numbers in T20s are also quite impressive - 61 wickets in 65 games at an economy of just 6.91.
Parth Bhut - Two of Saurashtra’s best spinners after Ravindra Jadeja - Bhut and Dharmendrasinh are both part of the Kutch set-up. Bhut is a typical Indian left-arm spinner - a defensive option with the ball in white-ball cricket and a capable batter.
Prerak Mankad - The medium-pace bowling allrounder has featured in six IPL games, five for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and one for Punjab Kings (PBKS). He has played more than 50 games in each three formats for Saurashtra and will captain the Lions in the Saurashtra Pro T20 2025.
Chetan Sakariya - A left-arm seamer who has played two T20Is and one ODI for India, Sakariya is a pretty well-known name in Indian cricket. He has featured in 20 IPL games but has fallen off the radar in the last few years. A solid outing in the SPL 2025 could put him in the right path.
Arpit Vasavada - One of Saurashtra’s greatest red-ball batters, Vasavada was the second-highest run-getter when they won their last Ranji Trophy in 2022-23. With an average of close to 24 and a strike rate of 117.10, the 36-year-old’s numbers aren’t great in the 20-over format, but the Lions can benefit from his presence in the squad.
