Mohammed Shami might be out of the Indian national team, but he can’t remain out of controversies. After he was ruled out of India’s ODI squad without any proper reason by the chief of the selection committee, Ajit Agarkar, Shami replied to questions about his fitness after he played back-to-back four-day games for the state team, Bengal, in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26.
However, the next problem for him is right on the door as the Supreme Court (SC) of India served him a notice to reply to a petition filed against him by his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan.
Jahan has challenged the Calcutta High Court ruling where she had to be paid a sum of INR 4 lakh per month for the maintenance of her and her daughter’s monthly expenses by Shami.
In the Supreme Court, Jahan has claimed a monthly alimony of INR 10 lakh per month, citing that the expenses incurred by her result in a total of INR 7.5 lakh on maintaining her lifestyle and 2.5 lakh for the needs of their daughter.
The Calcutta High Court orders were passed on July 1 and August 25, respectively.
As per the petition filed by Jahan, Shami’s annual income in 2021-22 was INR 48 Cr and considering that, what she is asking for is not even 1/10th of it.
Married in 2014, the couple separated in 2018 after Jahan filed an FIR against Shami and his family for domestic violence.
