Second-highest run chase, fastest fifty for Pollard, and more

Here are a few noteworthy stats from Match 27 of IPL 2021 between Mumbai and Chennai

Mumbai Indians v Chennai Super Kings - the El Clasico of IPL surely lived up to all the hype! The Match 27 of the Indian Premier League 2021 had everything in it. Fifties from Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali and Ambati Rayudu helped Chennai Super Kings amass 218/4 in their 20 overs, but they were once again blown away by their arch-nemesis Kieron Pollard. The big man from West Indies smoked eight maximums and six fours in his 34-ball 87* - his highest score in IPL - and got Mumbai over the line on the very last delivery of the match. The Men in Yellow haven't been able to defend a total against Mumbai since 2013.

SECOND-HIGHEST RUN CHASE

Chennai registered their highest total against Mumbai before Pollard hammered them away. Overall, this was the fourth-highest team total against MI in the history of IPL but the five-time champions responded in style and pulled off the second-highest run chase in the history of the tournament. This was also the first time Mumbai have chased down a target of over 200 in this tournament. They smashed 138 in the second half of their innings - most runs scored in the last 10 overs in a successful IPL run chase - and earned their fourth win of the season.

ANOTHER 17-BALL FIFTY FOR POLLARD

There's something about batsmen from Mumbai Indians and them scoring 17-ball fifties. Pollard, Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan have all scored a half-century off 17 deliveries and the former has actually done it twice. Pollard also broke the record of Prithvi Shaw who slammed a fifty off 18 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders earlier this week. Pollard loves playing against Chennai. He has an average of 74.8 and a strike rate of 186.1 in games that Mumbai have won against CSK.

FOURTH CONSECUTIVE HALF-CENTURY FOR FAF

The former South African dropped Pollard in the second innings, but in the first essay, du Plessis continued his rich vein of form with the bat. The right-handed opener became the first CSK player to score four consecutive fifties in IPL. Jos Buttler, Virender Sehwag and David Warner have done it five times, while Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli have scored two centuries and as many fifties on the trot.

RAYUDU MAKES A MARK

Rayudu finally got an opportunity to make an impression with the bat and the 35-year-old veteran didn't disappoint. The right-hander played one of the best knocks of his career, clobbering four fours and seven sixes in his 27-ball 72*. Rayudu got to his fifty off only 20 deliveries - joint second-fastest for Chennai. Suresh Raina got it off 16 deliveries against Punjab in 2014, while MS Dhoni got it off 20 against Mumbai in 2012.

A NIGHT TO FORGET FOR BUMRAH

Mumbai's ace paceman, Jasprit Bumrah had a rare bad game tonight. The right-armer was smashed for 56 runs in his four overs, with du Plessis, Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja smashing him all around the park. This is the third time Bumrah has leaked more than 50 runs in an IPL game.

A UNIQUE RECORD FOR CSK

Chennai became the first team to have two 100-plus partnerships in an IPL innings. Moeen Ali and du Plessis first added 108 runs for the second wicket before Rayudu and Jadeja put on 102* off 56 deliveries for the fifth wicket.

200th IPL GAME FOR RAINA

Raina became only the fourth player to play 200 IPL games. The left-hander was dismissed for just two runs, but is still the third-highest run-getter in the IPL.
