Sehwag recalls Dravid's angry outburst directed at Dhoni in 2006
NEWSRahul Dravid led India to a 4-1 ODI series win on that tour
Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag recalls an incident where MS Dhoni was on the receiving end of an angry outburst from Rahul Dravid. In a recent advertisement, Dravid was seen in an angry avatar, which has taken many by surprise. Recalling the event from 2006 during an ODI between India and Pakistan, Sehwag said, "I have seen Rahul Dravid get angry. When we were in Pakistan, and back then MS Dhoni was a newcomer. Dhoni played a shot and got caught at point," Sehwag told Cricbuzz.
"Dravid was very angry with MS Dhoni. 'That's the way you play? You should finish the game'. I was myself taken aback by Dravid's English outburst although I didn't understand half of it," he added. That seemed to have worked as Dhoni played more responsibly in the next match, controlling his natural instinct of playing shots.
"When MS batted the next time, I could see he was not hitting too many shots. I went and asked him what was wrong. He said 'I don't want to be scolded by Dravid again. Let's finish the game quietly and go back,'" Sehwag recollected.
Sehwag also revealed Dhoni would often not answer his phone calls and as a result the then BCCI secretary then had to give him another phone and told him to answer any calls he got on that number. Famously, VVS Laxman had once famously said in a press conference that Dhoni did not answer his call when he called him to inform him about his decision to retire.
"Once it happened that the BCCI secretary (name not revealed) called MS and he didn't pick up the call. When the secretary next time met him, he gave a special phone to MS and told him that when this one rings, you need to pick it up.
"Because there would board meetings (selection) and as a captain, he was required to attend those calls. From that time, MS had that phone provided by BCCI and I don't know whether it's still there," said Sehwag.
