SENA Beast? KL Rahul has continued his excellent form away from home, as the 33-year-old brought up his 10th SENA half-century in the second Test against England, on July 5 (Saturday). After the early dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal on day three, Rahul built a much-needed partnership with Karun Nair early on day four.
Once Nair walked back for a 46-ball 26, Rahul took the attack to the English bowlers, with an aggressive-looking shot against Brydon Carse, through the gully region. But as Gill attacked from the other end, Rahul was happy playing second fiddle, nudging the ball, and bringing up his half-century with a solid drive through the long-off region.
It was a half-century off 78 balls, and his fifth fifty-plus score in England, surpassing legendary batter Vijay Merchant’s record. Not only did he establish himself as one of India’s greatest openers in England, but he also did in SENA, as it was his 10th 50+ score, going past Virender Sehwag’s tally.
