WPL 2025: Meet Kashvee Gautam, who’s finally making her debut after injury-hit 2024
The allrounder from Chandigarh was in Gujarat’s squad in 2024, however a toe stress fracture ruled her out
Kashvee Gautam is finally making her debut in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Vadodara. Last year, she was bought by the Gujarat Giants for ₹2 crore and became the most expensive uncapped Indian cricketer.
Kashvee, who was picked for her allround value, bowls right-arm medium pace and is known for her inswing deliveries. The right-handed batter has also grown in strength over the last few years and is adept at using the long handle as well.
She first gained national recognition after taking 10 wickets in an innings that included a hattrick in U-19 cricket in December 2020. She was also part of India Under-23 in the Asian Cricket Council’s Emerging tournament and bagged 12 wickets in seven games in the Senior Women’s ODI tournament for Chandigarh at an economy of just 4.14.
“Last year, I was with the team in Bangalore for some time. I saw what I was missing out on, and also realized what I could add up,” Kashvee told IANS before the 2025 season.
“After recovery, I worked on my range hitting. I looked for areas for scoring shots - not only in front but also behind the wicket. I developed variations in bowling, as there is very little margin of error in WPL."
“My domestic season went well, my economy was good, and I am confident that I will do my best in the coming matches. I want to take as many wickets as I can in powerplay and keep the economy down. I want to take the game to the end and finish matches in my role as a finisher.”
Her coach, Nagesh Gupta, also said that she is extensively training for her death-over bowling and is also improving her finishing with the bat.
“Right now her rhythm was good, so mainly we worked on her death-over bowling, as it becomes very important in slog overs. Plus, after the injury, her swing has also returned and started improving.
“Her line and swing should be good in WPL, as in-swing comes to her naturally. We also worked on her batting a lot, as she is doing very well right now in it. God willing, all good things will definitely happen. She will do well and let's hope for the best,” he said.
