Shakib Al Hasan isn’t seen in a Bangladesh shirt as often nowadays, but he’s still breaking records and creating history elsewhere. Playing for Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), the 38-year-old wreaked havoc in the batting lineup of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots as he picked up three wickets for just 11 runs in two overs.
In the process, he reached 500 T20 wickets as he picked his second scalp in the form of Pakistani wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan, who was caught and bowled by Shakib. With this, Shakib became the only Bangladeshi to reach this milestone, and just the fifth bowler overall. Only Rashid Khan (660), Dwayne Bravo (631), Sunil Narine (590) and Imran Tahir (554) have picked up more T20 wickets than the Bangladeshi stalwart.
However, what sets Shakib apart is the fact that he has more than 7,500 runs in T20s as well, which makes him one of the most successful all-rounders in the format. He has been playing T20 cricket since 2006, and has been part of franchise leagues all over the globe, including Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he played a key role in their title-winning campaign in 2012 and 2014.
Meanwhile, Shakib’s three wickets and 25 off 18 with the bat helped the Falcons to cruise to history with two balls to spare. With this win, they maintained their lead at the top of the points table.
