Shakib Al Hasan was visibly disappointed with his batting unit during the post-match presentation, after his team was defeated by 7 wickets as Pakistan chased down the total within 40 overs.
Apart from the experienced Shakib and Mushfiqur Rahim, none of the batters could score more than 20 runs, as the Pakistani pace attack blew away Bangladesh’s batting with their pace and intensity. It all began when they lost 4 wickets within the first powerplay itself.
“We lost at the start, they bowled really well and we played some ordinary shots. On a wicket like this, we shouldn't have lost four wickets in 10 overs," Shakib said at the post-match presentation.
He also rued the lack of partnerships in the middle, as apart from his and Mushfiqur’s 100-run stand, none of the batters could stabilize and build the innings with the other batters. Shakib also remarked on the lack of consistency in the Bangladeshi batting efforts.
“Batting at this moment is a little bit hot and cold. We need to be consistent and that's what we'll try to do," the Bangladesh skipper said.
While he criticized his batters, Shakib praised the performances of his seamers.
“Our three seamers bowled brilliantly. They have been bowling well for the last couple of years. Unfortunately, we couldn't get the wickets. It wasn't a pitch where you can get wickets unless batsmen make a mistake”, the all-rounder said.
Bangladesh play Sri Lanka next at Colombo on the 9th of September, where the slow nature of the pitch might support Bangladesh a bit more than Lahore.
