Bangladesh allrounder Shakib al Hasan has been ruled out of their first Test against Sri Lanka beginning from May 15 after testing positive for COVID-19.
According to Cricbuzz, Shakib tested positive twice after returning from the USA on Monday and will stay in isolation for the next five days. He was expected to join the national team in Chattogram ahead of the series.
"Shakib tested COVID positive and will not be available for the opening Test against Sri Lanka," Jalal Yunus, BCB's cricket operation chairman told Cricbuzz.
The star allrounder was set to make a return to the Test side after a gap of five months after skipping the red-ball series against New Zealand and South Africa. He last featured in the Test whites in December 2021 against Pakistan.
The first Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka is set to be played from May 15 to 19 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
