Shakib to skip Bangladesh's white-ball series against Zimbabwe
The three-match ODI series will not be a part of the ICC World Cup Super League
Star allrounder Shakib al Hasan is set to miss Bangladesh's upcoming white-ball tour against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh Cricket Board officials confirmed. Shakib might also miss the ODI series against West Indies beginning next week.
Bangladesh, however, will have seniors Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah and Tamim Iqbal available for the Zimbabwe series beginning on July 30. BCB cricket operations manager Jalal Yunus also quashed talk of sending a second-string team as the series will not be part of the ICC World Cup Super League.
"Shakib informed us that he isn't going. We have confirmed a team with the selectors. A full-strength team will go to Zimbabwe. It is an important series although points are not involved. But we want to do well there. Many people said it would be a second-string team but no, we want to send a strong Bangladesh side," Yunus said.
Tamim might not be part of the T20Is on July 30, August 1 and 2 after informing that selectors that he will be taking a break from the format.
"Tamim will let us know, maybe after this series or end of July. He had asked for time till July and he was supposed to inform us in August. At the end of July, or at the beginning of August, he will inform. We don't have to give reminders. We have held plenty of meetings with him. So there is nothing to remind him of," Yunus said.
Bangladesh will complete their tour of West Indies with the ODIs on July 10, 13 and 16.
