Shamilia Connell discharged from the hospital, stable, confirms CWI

Cricket West Indies’ CEO Johnny Grave confirmed that Connell has been discharged from the hospital

West Indies pacer Shamilia Connell collapsed on the field and had to be taken away to the hospital during Bangladesh's unsuccessful run chase in their women's World Cup match on Friday. While the cause of the collapse has still not been confirmed, Cricket West Indies’ CEO Johnny Grave gave a positive update, stating that the pacer has been discharged from the hospital.

The 29-year-old collapsed while fielding the fifth ball of the 47th over. The medical staff attended to her before ferrying her out of the ground, even as play came to a halt for a while. She was later taken to the hospital, as the Windies completed a thrilling four-run victory over Bangladesh.

"Yes, she was taken as a precaution to hospital but has been discharged. We will update the media officially in the morning once we have an update from the Team Physio and our CMO," Cricket West Indies CEO Johnny Grave, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cricket West Indies, told Cricbuzz.

Earlier in the day, Windies skipper Stefanie Taylor called it a ‘sad moment’ when the pacer went down during the second innings of the crucial clash.

"It was sad to see her go down but we look at the bright side, it was probably for us to regroup and we did that and changed the momentum," West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor said post match.

While it is still not clear whether the pacer would be fit in time for Windies’ next clash in the ODI Women’s World Cup, an update is likely on Saturday regarding her status.
