After having not featured in the national setup for nearly a year, the 33-year-old pacer Shikha Pandey has made her comeback in the national team for the upcoming T20 World Cup in South Africa. The 33-year-old wasn’t even in contention, given how the selectors have ignored her time and again, including the marquee series against Australia this month.
Perhaps, it is a move to accommodate experience with the squad already having youngsters in the form of Renuka Thakur and Anjali Sarvani in their bowling unit. Swashbuckling all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar has an asterisk next to her name, with a call only to be taken if she clears the fitness test, in the Harmanpreet Kaur-led unit for the World Cup.
Sneh Rana, who was a revelation at the start of the year only finds herself on the list of reserves, alongside Sabbhineni Meghana and Meghna Singh. India will kick-start their campaign on February 12, against Pakistan before a clash against the West Indies beckons.
India have also named the squad for the upcoming Tri series in South Africa, with the inclusion of Sushma Verma has been added to the squad alongside Amanjot Kaur. It will be Kaur’s maiden appearance in the side, while Verma returns to the setup after two years, while the rest of the usual suspects find themselves a place in the squad.
