Shimron Hetmyer didn’t have a great outing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The left-handed West Indian batter scored 239 runs at an average of 21.72 and failed to finish quite a few games for the Rajasthan Royals (RR).
The 28-year-old struck 17 fours and 11 sixes in the tournament, operating at a strike rate of 145.7. His balls-per-six ratio stood at 14.9 - far from ideal for a designated finisher. However, since the IPL, Hetmyer has rediscovered his six-hitting form in stunning fashion.
The batter has played 14 T20s since the IPL, amassing 459 runs at an average of 41.73 and a strike rate of 203.1, smashing 27 fours and 37 sixes in this period. His balls-per-six ratio has dropped to an impressive 6.1.
He was particularly outstanding in Major League Cricket 2025, scoring 340 runs at an average of 68 and a strike rate of 209.9.
Continuing his form for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Global Super League 2025, Hetmyer went berserk against Hobart Hurricanes on July 16 (Wednesday). Chasing a modest target of 126, Guyana were struggling at 42/3 in 8.3 overs when Hetmyer took charge of the innings.
The left-hander hammered Fabian Allen for five sixes in the 10th over. Hetmyer scored 32 runs off that over and was dismissed in the next, after a blistering 39 off just 10 deliveries, with 36 of those runs coming via sixes.
Guyana chased down the target with more than three overs to spare and booked their spot in the grand finale, where they will face Rangpur Riders on July 18.
