Shreyanka Patil's fifer hands Hong Kong a drubbing

The India off-spinner finished with a spell of 5 for 2 as the hosts were bundled out for just 34 in the Women's Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2023

It was all but over for Hong Kong after they were reduced to 5 for 3 in the fourth over against India at the ACC Women's Emerging Teams Asia Cup at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground, Mongkok.

Marina Lamplough and Mariko Hill then put on 14, which included a couple of boundaries, but that is when Shreyanka Patil got into the groove. The off-spinner who impressed in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023 for RCB Women, picked up five wickets, giving away just a couple of runs in her three overs that helped her side bowl hosts Hong Kong out for just 34.

Just after the halfway stage, Hill was dismissed by Shreyanka and in the next four overs, Hong Kong lost their remaining wickets. The Indian spinners continued to wreak havoc with Left-arm spinner Mannat Kashyap (2 for 2) and leg-spinner Parshavi Chopra (2 for 12) too among the wickets, while fast bowler Titas Sadhu scalping one.

In the chase, India lost their skipper Shweta Sehrawat early, but Uma Chetry (16*) and G Trisha (19*) ensured that there were no further hiccups. India next take on Nepal at the same venue on Thursday (June 15).

In the other matches, Pakistan put up a superb show, especially with the ball, successfully defending 87 against Nepal, winning the game by nine runs. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka too got off the mark in the eight-team tournament.

Brief scores:

Hong Kong 34 in 14 overs (Mariko Hill 14, Marina Lamplough 5; Shreyanka Patil 5 for 2) lost to India 38 for 1 in 5.2 overs (Uma Chetry 16*, G Trish 19*; Betty Chan 1 for 15) by 9 wickets
