Mumbai’s mainstay batter Shreyas Iyer has confirmed his availability for the upcoming red-ball Duleep Trophy tournament, which begins on August 28 (Thursday). Unlike last year, this edition of the Duleep Trophy will be in the zonal format, meaning Iyer will appear for the West Zone.
Iyer hasn’t been part of India’s red-ball setup since February 2024, when he was part of the XI for the five-match Test series against England, at home. Since then, Iyer has also returned to domestic cricket, where he scored a few crucial knocks for Mumbai.
According to the reports from The Indian Express, alongside Iyer, Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Dube and Tushar Deshpande have confirmed their availability for the tournament. Sarfaraz will be looking to come back to the Indian side after a good Duleep Trophy tournament.
“Iyer has informed us that he is available to play in the Duleep Trophy. Other players like Sarfaraz, Shivam Dubey and Tushar Deshpande have confirmed their availability,” a source in the MCA confirmed to The Indian Express.
The publication also confirmed that Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur won’t be part of West Zone’s setup for the tournament. South Zone too have a similar practice in play, as none of the Indian regulars, KL Rahul, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Washington Sundar, are in the squad.
