Punjab Kings (PBKS) hammered Mumbai Indians (MI) by five wickets in the Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 in Ahmedabad on June 1 (Sunday), and qualified for the final after 11 years. The last time PBKS made it through to the final was in 2014, where they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
This time around, Punjab will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final on June 3 (Tuesday), the same team they lost to by eight wickets in Qualifier 1. With PBKS and RCB playing the grand finale of the 2025 season, we are set to have a new IPL champion.
Asked to bat, MI lost Rohit Sharma early but Jonny Bairstow (38 off 24), Tilak Varma (44 off 29) and Suryakumar Yadav (44 off 26) laid a solid foundation for the lower middle-order. Batting at No.6, Naman Dhir smacked 37 off 18 deliveries to propel MI to 203/6.
In the second innings, Priyansh Arya (20 off 10) and Josh Inglis (38 off 21) got PBKS off to a fiery start before skipper Shreyas Iyer (41-ball 87*) took over and forced MI to surrender. Nehal Wadhera (48 off 29) also played his part, but it was Iyer who got PBKS over the line with a six - his eighth of the innings.
