Shreyas Iyer On The Road To Recovery, BCCI Reveals Latest Scan Details
Iyer had suffered lacerations on his spleen after an impact injury on his rib cage while fielding in the Sydney ODI
On October 25, 2025, during the third One-Day International (ODI) against Australia in Sydney, Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer sustained a significant injury while fielding. While attempting a running catch to dismiss Alex Carey, Iyer fell awkwardly and clutched his left side in visible pain. The team medical staff immediately attended to him, and he was subsequently taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
Initial scans revealed a laceration to Iyer’s spleen, accompanied by internal bleeding. The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested. Iyer's condition was considered life-threatening at the time, and he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for close monitoring.
As of October 28, 2025, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed in a report that a repeat scan has shown significant improvement in Iyer's condition. He is now stable and continues to recover under observation. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his progress.
Currently, Iyer is not part of India's squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against Australia, starting on October 29, 2025. His participation in the three-match ODI series against South Africa, starting November 30, is uncertain and will depend on his recovery progress.
The BCCI medical team will continue to monitor his condition closely in the coming weeks.
