In Match 12 of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 between India and New Zealand in Dubai on March 2 (Sunday), Shreyas Iyer registered his slowest One-Day International fifty (75 balls).
Iyer’s previous slowest was against West Indies in 2022, which came off 74 deliveries.
Neither the team management nor Iyer would mind this as India were 30/3 in 6.4 overs against the Black Caps, with Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli all getting out cheaply. It took Iyer 31 deliveries to hit his first boundary, and he reached the landmark with only four fours under his belt. Iyer also registered his sixth 50-plus score against the Black Caps in eight innings.
So far, the right-hander has scored more than 500 runs against New Zealand at an average of almost 80. Iyer has four fifties and two centuries to his name.
