Mumbai will be without their international stars Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer in their next Ranji Trophy game against Meghalaya in Elite Group A. The match will be played from January 30 at the Mumbai Cricket Association BKC ground.
“Iyer won’t be playing the next Ranji Trophy game as he will be preparing for white-ball cricket, so are Sharma and Jaiswal,” said an MCA source, as quoted by the Indian Express.
All three batters are scheduled to play the three ODI series against England, which begins on February 6 in Nagpur. This will serve as preparation for the Champions Trophy, which will begin on February 19 in Dubai for India.
Sharma, Jaiswal and Iyer all featured in Mumbai’s last Ranji game at the BKC ground against Jammu & Kashmir, which they lost despite the star-studded side. While Rohit scored just 3&28 in the game, the other two weren’t impressive either. Jaiswal scored 4&26. Meanwhile, Iyer scored 11&17.
Mumbai are in a need of an outright win against Meghalaya to be in contention for knockout qualification after being placed third in Group A, with Jammu & Kashmir being at the top and Baroda being in second place.
The Mumbai batters will now report in Nagpur in the Indian camp during the first week of February.
