NEWSDelhi Capitals (DC) captain and India middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 after he dislocated his shoulder while fielding in the first One-Day International (ODI) against England on Tuesday (March 23) in Pune.
Capitals’ co-owner Parth Jindal confirmed the news on Twitter. "Absolutely devastated and gutted for our skipper @ShreyasIyer15 - stay strong captain - hope for a very quick recovery. Have full faith that you will come back even stronger from this. India needs you in the T20 World Cup, " Jindal tweeted.

The BCCI is however yet to give a statement regarding the extent of Shreyas’ injury. It is understood that he has suffered a tear on his left shoulder, which could need surgery.
The India batsman had recently signed up for Lancashire to take part in their Royal One-Day Cup campaign, but as things stands, he may not be able to represent the team in England as well. In Shreyas' absence, DC have plenty of players to pick from to lead the side, including Rishabh Pant, Steven Smith and Ravichandran Ashwin, among other candidates.
Shreyas was DC's second highest run-getter in the previous edition, scoring 519 runs from 17 innings at a strike-rate of over 123. He also featured for Mumbai in their triumphant Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021, where he slammed a couple of centuries from four matches before joining the Indian team for the limited-overs leg of the England series.
