Shreyas Iyer won't be fit for SL white-ball tour: Reports

Indian team management and the selectors want the batsman to be in his best shape for the T20 World Cup in October

India will travel to Sri Lanka for three ODIs and three T20Is in July with the Test team preparing in the UK for the Pataudi Trophy following the conclusion of the World Test Championship final against New Zealand. With it is clear now that a completely different team will partake in that series, Shreyas Iyer had emerged as a front-runner to lead the side, with the Mumbaikar having the experience of leading Delhi Capitals in the IPL.

However, according to Sportstar, he is unlikely to recover in time to be considered for India’s limited overs’ tour and is expected to take at least three months to return to competitive cricket. Iyer had undergone a shoulder surgery on April 8 for the injury he sustained during the England series.

According to the report, the Indian team management and the selectors want the batsman to be in his best shape for the T20 World Cup in October. Thus his return is ruled out to allow him sufficient time to recover.

The medical staff of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the team management and the national selectors will be aiming to keep the batsman injury-free and fresh for the T20 World Cup likely to start in mid-October.
