The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one such platform where everybody wants to showcase their talent and when one flops on that big stage, it is hard to get a second chance to get noticed again by the scouts. But now, the state leagues in India are becoming the best platform for the local players to get back into the good books of the scouts.
With the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 beginning, a lot of flop players from the IPL 2025 will look to turn heads around with their showing in the league beginning August 2nd at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Here are three such players.
Harshit Rana was supposed to be the 'Big Show' in IPL 2025 after having a great IPL 2024 and making his debut for the Indian team thereafter. After picking 19 wickets in the season in which KKR became champions, Rana picked only 15 in the 2025 season.
Rana’s average and economy rate rose from 20.15 and 9.08 in 2024 to 29.86 and 10.18, respectively, in 2025. He even had a very average tour of Australia right before IPL 2025. Thus, DPL will be the right opportunity for him to get back into form and strengthen his credentials for a Team India call-up in the home season.
Simarjeet Singh bagged a good amount of INR 1.5 Cr from the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, his outing for the team was not at all up to the mark as he went for 141 runs in the 10 overs that he bowled in four matches. The biggest drawback was that the right-arm pacer picked up only two wickets.
Come DPL 2025, Simarjeet, who was the leading wicket-taker last season with 18 scalps from 10 games, will look to get back into form and keep his place in SRH ahead of next season.
At 36 years of age, Ishant Sharma is not as old as it seems because, even after playing 100 Tests, his last Test for India was way back in 2021. He still continues to play cricket regularly, now only focusing on the shortest format, and, therefore, he would be looking forward to playing in DPL 2025.
Ishant featured in seven matches for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025, but could only pick up four wickets, going for 11.18 runs per over. His average of 51.25 was the worst in seasons where a speedster has taken more than one wicket.
