Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep took all ten wickets between them in England’s first innings during the second Test at Edgbaston on July 4 (Friday). The two bowlers then showered praise on each other as Akash Deep finished with his best career figures, playing his eighth Test.
Akash Deep finished with four wickets, giving away 88 runs. Siraj, who picked 6/70, went on to compare his bowling partner to a horse for his work rate and the eagerness to always give his best.
“Akash Deep is like a horse. He was waiting for an opportunity and when the opportunity arrived he showed how hungry he was. To be honest, I enjoyed bowling with him,” Siraj was quoted by Sportstar as saying in a video uploaded by BCCI on their website.
Talking about his own bowling, the senior Indian bowler said, “I love it when given responsibility. My only goal was not to give runs from my end. I tried to bowl with control as much as possible and keep the batsmen under pressure.”
Even Akash Deep praised Siraj for his big role in India getting a lead of 180 runs in the first innings.
“With the first new ball I got two wickets but Mian (Siraj) played a big role. He kept the pressure from one end,” said the Bengal bowler.
“Five wickets will come and go, but I never have these things in mind,” Akash added about his ambitions of getting his maiden five-wicket haul.
