Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj has been fined 15% match fee and handed a demerit point for his celebration against Ben Duckett in the ongoing Lord’s Test. It is Siraj’s second demerit point in the last 24-month period.
Siraj was guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which related to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.”
The incident happened on day four of the third Test, as the pacer celebrated in close quarters to Duckett, and made contact with the English batter on his way back to the dressing room. Siraj will now have to be careful, given that two more demerit points could land him in a one-match suspension.
“When a player reaches four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, they are converted into suspension points and a player is banned,” ICC’s release stated.
