Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed South Africa pacer Sisanda Magala as a replacement for New Zealand bowler Kyle Jamieson for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. Jamieson, who was ruled out of the tournament due to the recurrence of a lower-back stress fracture shortly before New Zealand's Test series against England, was bought by the franchise for INR 1 Crore.
Magala has rich experience in the shortest format of the game but last played for South Africa back in April 2021. Magala has a reputation of being a regular wicket-taker in domestic T20 games over the years and in the last edition of SA20, in which he represented Sunrisers Eastern Cape, he was a threat in the powerplay, and played a big role for SREC in their championship run.
Chennai Super Kings will kick start their campaign in the Indian Premier League on March 31, playing against Gujarat Giants in Ahmedabad. It remains to be seen if Magala will be a part of the team for that match as it was reported that South African players, who have been part of the squad for the series against Netherlands, will arrive in the tournament a little late.
