Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have pulled out leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, according to reports. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had procured his services this year at the auction for INR 1.25 crore.
Reports have also mentioned that the SLC had informed the BCCI about the delay in recovery of the chronic pain in Hasaranga’s heel, who further informed his franchise SRH. It is understood that SRH have been on the lookout for his replacement but haven’t announced one yet.
Hasaranga last played the Bangladesh tour in March, and he travelled to Dubai recently to contact a specialist, as per the information given by SRH coach Daniel Vettori. His recovery for the IPL seemed unlikely at that point, and therefore SLC informed the BCCI about his unavailability.
The 26-year-old could have proved quite helpful for the Sunrisers on the sticky surface in Hyderabad, and he had a spectacular season for RCB when he last played in 2022, where he picked up 26 wickets in the IPL.
However, SRH already have a leg-spinner in Mayank Markande, and they’ll have an opportunity to get another valuable overseas pick as Hasaranga’s replacement.
