SLC worried about India series as COVID-19 cases surge in Sri Lanka

The looming threat of increasing COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka is a cause of concern for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) as it is set to host India for three ODIs and three T20s in July.
The island nation has seen over 2000 positive cases in the over the past few days and reported 149 virus-related deaths in the last 10 days.
“Increase in Covid-19 cases are a big worry but we have successfully hosted England and others during Covid times and we are confident we will be able to host India as well, just keeping fingers crossed that cases don’t increase,” a senior official from SLC told InsideSport.
According to the itinerary by SLC, the Indian team will arrive July 5 and will undergo mandatory quarantine for a week before the ODI series begins on July 13. The T20I series will be played between July 22 and 27.
Sri Lanka is currently preparing for a three-match ODI series in Bangladesh from May 23-28, while the Indian team is set to fly to England on June 2 for the World Test Championship final against New Zealand, which will be followed by a five-match Test series against England.
The R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo is set to host all the matches between Sri Lanka and India, which will be without the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, etc.
