Smriti Mandhana crowned ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year for 2024
Mandhana has scored four ODI centuries to cement her place at the top of the run-scorers charts in the ICC Women’s Championship
Smriti Mandhana’s incredible run of form in 2024 resulted in the Indian Vice-captain being named as the ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year 2024. Mandhana scored 747 runs in 13 innings across 2024 at an impressive average of 57.86 and she scored at an impressive strike rate of 95.15.
She finished the year ahead of Laura Wolvaardt (697), Tammy Beaumont (554), and Hayley Matthews (469). She scored four ODI centuries to cement her place at the top of the run-scorers charts in the ICC Women’s Championship.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai, who scored 417 runs and took 17 wickets in 14 matches, was named the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year. Starting off in his very first ODI of the year, where he smashed an unbeaten 149* against Sri Lanka, Omarzai’s destructive 86* from just 50 deliveries against South Africa made him a global star.
In a year when the Indian Men’s team played very little ODI cricket, not a single Indian player was named in the ICC ODI Team of the Year. Charith Asalanka, who led Sri Lanka to a 3-0 series win against India, is named the skipper of the ICC Men's ODI Team of the Year.
