India’s search for a solid and consistent opener might end here, as Pratika Rawal continues to shine through alongside Smriti Mandhana. The pair continued their colossal run, as they became only the third Indian opening pair to 1,000 runs, in the clash against England women, on July 16 (Wednesday).
Before this, only Jaya Sharma-Anju Jain (1,229 runs) and Jaya Sharma-Karuna Jain (1,169 runs) were the only Indian pairs to get to the 1,000-run mark. The pair also smashed all partnership records, averaging 84.6 - the highest for any opening pair, surpassing Caroline Atkins and Sarah Taylor.
However, Mandhana got out after scoring a 24-ball 28, as the pair fell just short of yet another 50-run partnership, which would have been their 10th 50+ run stand, just one shy of an all-time Indian opening pair record.
