Soon To Be Father, Champions Trophy Star To Miss Few IPL 2025 Matches In April: Reports

The player will likely miss the matches to be with his wife for their first childbirth

KL Rahul, India’s star from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, who also featured in the team of the tournament, will not be available for Delhi Capitals for a few matches in April during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025

Several media reports suggested that since Rahul and his wife, Athiya Shetty, are expecting their first childbirth in April, the top contender for the Capitals’ captain’s role this season might miss a few games. Rahul will most likely be with his wife and their family.

Actor Suniel Shetty, father of Athiya, in an interview with the Hindustan Times said, “Right now, probably the grandchild. There’s no other conversation, and we don’t want any other conversation. We’re just looking forward (to meeting the grandchild) in April.”

The 32-year-old Rahul, who has captained Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings in the IPL previously, was bought by the Capitals for INR 14 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction in November 2024.

Having started his career at Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Rahul has played for Sunrisers Hyderabad as well, apart from PBKS and LSG. DC will be his fifth IPL team.

Although Rahul's absence from a few matches in April seems certain, neither the franchise nor the player has officially confirmed this.
