Sourav Ganguly In Race To Become Supremo Of Bengal Cricket
Former skipper of Bengal and India confirmed that he will be submitting his nomination to become CAB President
Former Indian skipper and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has announced to India Today that he will enter the race to become the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) as he will file his nomination ahead of the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Ganguly’s nomination, as reported by India Today, has come after his elder brother, Snehasish Ganguly's, ineligibility to hold the post because of the tenure limitation imposed by the Lodha Committee. The good news for the Ganguly family is that if the former Indian skipper chooses to file his nomination, he is set to be elected unopposed.
The CAB apex council meeting is set to be on August 14, followed by the AGM on September 20.
Notably, Ganguly succeeded Jagmohan Dalmiya as the CAB president and presided over the board from 2015 to 2019. From there, he moved on to the greener pastures of the BCCI, where he was elected President.
His tenure as cricket administrator for Bengal and India, while being filled with many player controversies, saw many positive developments like the building of the new National Cricket Academy (NCA), and establishing better player development pathways in Bengal, whose result was evident in Bengal’s Ranji Trophy performances.
Roger Binny suceeded Ganguly at BCCI's helm after 2022.
