Three months after stepping down as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President, Sourav Ganguly will return to the Indian Premier League as the Director of Cricket for the Delhi Capitals, with the franchise going global.
Ganguly was part of the support staff as a Mentor for the Capitals in 2019, where Delhi finished third in the points table before taking on the top-job with the BCCI.
The former opener is expected to join the team ahead of the 2023 IPL season in April, and will work in tandem with the owners on expanding the franchise’s growth. According to a report by PTI, the recent picks in the mini auctions was helmed by Ricky Ponting, the Head Coach of the Delhi Capitals and Ganguly.
"Yes, Sourav will be back with Delhi Capitals from this year. The discussions and modalities are over.
"He has worked with the franchise, shares a good comfort level with owners and if he would have worked in IPL, it would have always been with DC," an IPL source tracking developments told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
The 50-year-old will also oversee all the cricketing aspects of the other two franchises Dubai Capitals in the ILT20 league and Pretoria Capitals in the SA20.
