Sourav Ganguly ‘Very Hopeful’ Eden Gardens Will Host IPL 2025 Final

Kolkata was originally scheduled to host the final but reports suggest that the BCCI are likely to shift the final away from the city

The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) is officially underway after an enforced break, however, with just over ten days to go for the knockouts, the venues for the playoffs are yet to be announced by the BCCI.

Kolkata was originally scheduled to host the final but reports suggest that the BCCI are likely to shift the final away from the city, most probably to Ahmedabad, due to inclement weather in West Bengal. However, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) have been fighting hard to ensure the final stays with them and is held at the Eden Gardens.

In the wake of that, Sourav Ganguly, former BCCI President, commented that he is ‘very hopeful’ that Eden can still host the IPL 2025 final.

“No, no, we’re trying—talking to the BCCI,” said Ganguly at the All India Invitation Inter-School Regetta event, reported News18.

“Is it that easy to shift the final? It’s Eden’s Playoffs, and I’m sure everything will be sorted. I’m very hopeful.”

BCCI opted to schedule the remaining group games in six cities, but Kolkata was not among the shortlisted cities.

Commenting on the same, Ganguly said, “Kolkata has finished its league matches, so Eden is not there in the first list.”

Should Ahmedabad host the final, the Narendra Modi Stadium would have hosted the final of three of the last four editions.
