South Africa Qualify For Semis; All 4 Champions Trophy Semi-Finalists Confirmed
The four semi-finalists are India, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, same as the 2023 ODI World Cup
Heading into their last group game of this Champions Trophy against England in Karachi, South Africa needed to avoid losing by 207 runs or more in order to confirm qualification for the semi-finals.
Remarkably, the Proteas ended up sealing qualification even before the second innings of the contest began, bowling England out for 179. As a result, they became the fourth and final team to qualify for the semis of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
The four semi-finalists are India, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, same as the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, while the four semi-finalists have been decided, the matchups will only be confirmed at the end of the India-New Zealand clash tomorrow in Dubai.
A1 vs B2 and B1 vs A2 being the two clashes means that, even if South Africa top Group B, they can still end up facing India in the semis should the Men in Blue lose to New Zealand. That, though, would not be ideal for the Proteas, given they’ve so far played all of their games in Pakistan.
The first semi-final will be played in Dubai on February 4 (Tuesday), while the second semi-final will be played on February 5 (Wednesday) at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
If India reach the final, the summit clash will be played in Dubai. But if India lose in the semi-final, Lahore will host the final on March 9 (Sunday).
