While India will miss Shubman Gill for the second Test in Guwahati against South Africa, the visitors too will continue to have the services of their star quick, Kagiso Rabada.
After missing the first Test of the two-match series in Kolkata, Rabada will now have to miss the second as well, confirmed Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma on the eve of the second game.
“Kagiso has been ruled out of the second Test,” Bavuma was quoted as saying by Times of India (TOI) on November 21 (Friday) in Guwahati, before the start of the match on Saturday.
Rabada did not play the first game either. Marco Jansen and Corbin Bosch were the two main pacers for the Proteas, while Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj were the two genuine spin-bowling options. The team was packed with six batters and one wicketkeeper batting option.
Among the batters, Aiden Markram and Wiaan Mulder were bowling options. While Mulder was used for five overs in the first innings, Markram got the crucial wicket of Washington Sundar in the second innings.
Speaking about the wicket, which has remained in the limelight, mostly because of the first Test which ended in three days, Bavuma said, “This wicket looks fresher and should behave more consistently than Kolkata. It’s a typical sub-continental track where batters enjoy the first two days before the spinners take over.”
Having won the first match in Kolkata, the Proteas will be looking to win this game too and win their first ever Test series in India in 25 years.
